Excellence, Equity, and Empathy
Joyce moved to Bellevue in 2003. She is raising a family, owns a business, and loves working in Bellevue because of Bellevue's commitment to being a highly-educated, diverse, and collaborative city. The Bellevue public education system is at the heart of these ideals. Joyce is running for Bellevue school board on a platform of Excellence, Equity, and Empathy in order to ensure and amplify these ideals. In Joyce's own words:
Excellence. Raised in K-12 public education and earning my degrees from Harvard and NYU Law, I value and know the importance of education. I have chosen to raise my four children in Bellevue because of our district’s excellence. I’m committed to advancing our reputation for academic excellence and increasing rigor and opportunities for all students. Equity. Having experienced both adversity as a woman of color and privilege as an attorney and business owner, I know how vitally important it is to advocate for everyone. I will continue to use my platforms to advocate for equity and inclusion. Empathy. It's been a divisive time with enormous and understandable frustrations. We need to listen (and be heard) with empathy. I will collaborate with all constituents to ensure a safe and respectful process for recovery from the pandemic. |
